WARNINGS: Devil May Cry as a canon features triggers like self-harm, impalement and serious injury to a major character (Dante gets stabbed once a game, it's a running gag), parental death, killing of brother (don't worry the guy got better), demons, heavy amounts of violence, blood and lots of it, some level of horror, gun violence, implied PTSD, murders of relatives (besides the brother-killing, another major character kills her own father who once murdered his own wife), some content that may border on sexual, and. whatever the fuck the GloriaTrish plotline in DMC4 was, other than highly insensitive at best.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
SON OF SPARDA: As the younger of the half-human half-demon twin sons of Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, a figure of myth and legend who'd once sealed away the demon king Mundus into the deepest pits of hell, Dante's demon blood gives him many, many advantages over ordinary human beings in his world. He's got enough super-strength that he can easily swing around giant swords as tall as he is with ease as well as toss around demons much larger than himself with great ease. He also has superhuman speed and agility, able to swing a gigantic sword so fast that rain drops don't manage to fall on him, pull off wild parkour stunts and jump onto a flying rocket to ride it around like a surfboard. His endurance and general durability is also insanely good: the series' running gag is that Dante gets impaled at least once every game (except in DMC2 but nobody talks about that one), and he has never shown any signs of slowing down post-stabbing. He has an accelerated healing factor that means he shrugs off most serious injuries, including headshots, with, at most, some offense that somebody actually shot him. What would kill an ordinary human being, Dante generally considers kinda rude and annoying.

DEVIL TRIGGER: Dante's demonic heritage grants him access to something called a Devil Trigger, a demonic form that boosts his power and strength to even higher levels than before. He also gains wings in this form, able to fly and keep up sustained flight for a time. Gameplay limits the time he spends in it for balance purposes, but in DMC5 he seems able to hold the form in cutscenes for longer than he could in gameplay, only snapping out of it when Urizen punched him so hard his sword broke, so I imagine he can hold it as long as he wants to. He just generally far prefers his human form by far. He can also partially trigger, and even hold off on transforming if he's consciously trying to hold back and go easy on an opponent, both of which happen in DMC4 when he first meets Nero and the kid kicks his teeth in. Also he can summon energy swords and use them in conjunction with his melee attacks. Also, this form can heal Dante even faster than normal, which was already kinda, uh, broken, so. (NOTE: currently nerfed so it lasts five minutes.)

SIN DEVIL TRIGGER: He hasn't unlocked this yet by his current canon point, but later on down the line he realizes that Rebellion can unite two seemingly disparate things together, and proceeds to stab himself with the remnants of his sword in order to unlock his full demonic power. In absorbing both Rebellion and his father's sword the Devil Sword Sparda, Dante unlocks an even more powerful demonic form called Sin Devil Trigger, which is just...so goddamn fucking OP. I'm serious, one of the in-game documents points out that "there's no tellin' the strength Dante has at his disposal" in this form, and he certainly seems powerful enough to go toe-to-toe with the demon that's handed multiple very capable and powerful people, including Dante himself, their asses and their teeth on a silver platter. Luckily, he can't stay in this form for very long, but he can do devastating amounts of damage in the meantime. (NOTE: I'm not touching this with a ten-foot pole, but this is here for completion's sake.)

STYLES: The main gimmick of Dante's gameplay is his Styles. There's four main styles: Trickster grants mobility and speed and enables near-teleportation, Gunslinger and Swordmaster expands the movesets of ranged and melee weapons respectively, and Royalguard blocks incoming attacks, with the energy from those attacks building up until Dante releases them in a devastating counter. There are also three other styles that make appearances in either the third or fourth games only: Quicksilver allows Dante to slow time down and unleash devastating attacks on enemies, Doppelganger enables Dante to create a copy of himself in battle, and Dark Slayer is basically just Trickster but bass-boosted and with Vergil's sword Yamato, and since Yamato's currently in Urizen's possession, Dante doesn't have access to Dark Slayer. He hasn't used either Quicksilver or Doppelganger in some time, so I imagine that he's just holding them back for kicks. It would not be the first time he's held back just for shits and giggles. (NOTE: Quicksilver and Doppelganger are to be used against NPCs only, and Dark Slayer is currently out of commission bc Urizen has Yamato.)
